Since moving back to East Texas, one of the most fulfilling experiences for me has been becoming a part of the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center (LACAC). Their dedication to animal welfare and their role in fostering a sense of community have truly made them a cornerstone of Longview. So, when they asked me to photograph their annual Strut Your Mutt event, I was thrilled to say yes!
The event itself was nothing short of magical. Families, friends, and even strangers came together to celebrate their shared love for animals. It was heartwarming to watch young kids clutching leashes, babies giggling in strollers, and older folks enjoying the fresh air with their furry companions. In those moments, it felt as if the world’s worries had melted away—replaced by smiles, laughter, and the infectious joy of being surrounded by dogs of all shapes and sizes.
For me, capturing those candid moments through photography is a passion that goes beyond the lens. There’s something deeply rewarding about preserving the small joys: a child’s wide-eyed grin as their dog leaps through the air, an elderly couple sharing a laugh as their pup wades cautiously into the foam pit, and the pure, unfiltered happiness of a dog sprinting free with ears flopping and tail wagging.
One of my favorite parts of the day was at the very end, where the event organizers unveiled a foam cannon and foam pit. It was an absolute hit! Dogs bounded into the frothy bubbles, chasing each other and pouncing with uncontainable excitement. The laughter of kids playing alongside their four-legged friends was contagious, and even the adults couldn’t resist joining in. It was a beautiful chaos of foam, fur, and fun, and it made for some of my favorite photographs of the day.
Beyond the event itself, the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center continues to hold a special place in my heart. Their commitment to finding homes for every animal in our area is inspiring, and they consistently go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of the animals they care for. Strut Your Mutt isn’t just an event; it’s a celebration of their tireless work and the community that supports them.
Looking back on the day, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude—not only for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event but also for the sense of connection it brought to everyone involved. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love Longview and why I’m proud to support LACAC and their incredible mission.
